Bishop Reginald C. Witherspoon Sr. was born in Seattle, Washington to the late Rev. Rayon and Mother Almeta Witherspoon. In 1976, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ in his life.  Bishop Witherspoon preached his first sermon on September 21, 1980. In 1981, Bishop Reginald and Lady Laura Witherspoon were united in marriage. He became a licensed minister in 1982 and ordained in April 1984 under the administration of the late Bishop T. L. Westbrook. Bishop Witherspoon has been married to Lady Laura Witherspoon for 38 blessed years. Together they have four children, Reginald Jr., LaTaunya, Romell and LaKayla Witherspoon, a daughter-in-love Tiana, and six precious grandchildren.

Bishop Witherspoon founded Mount Calvary Christian Center Church of God in Christ on August 30, 1987. During this time of humble beginnings, the ministry consisted of 15 members and has grown exponentially. Bishop Witherspoon is a man of God who has been entrusted with the sacred privilege of carrying a perpetual Kingdom “now” anointing. He is a ministerial visionary, innovator, creative thinker, shepherd to Mount Christian Center Church of God in Christ and a gatekeeper to the city of Seattle. Bishop Witherspoon has served as a chaplain and facilitator of group sessions with the juvenile detention. Bishop Witherspoon held the “Gathering of the Sons” dinner that ministered to young men from various opposing gangs to provide a place for dialogue, healing, hope and love. Bishop Witherspoon is the creator of B.R.I.D.G.E., a community development corporation. Bishop Witherspoon opened the Joshua Generation Teen Center that serves as a multi-purpose building, established the ministry network, launched its website, and completely paid off the mortgage on all church facilities. Bishop Witherspoon is broadly recognized as a leadership mastermind. He is    consistently called upon by Seattle governmental agencies to negotiate conflicts, and mediate difficult situations involving surrounding communities.

Bishop Witherspoon earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pastoral Ministries from Northwest University, and a Master of Arts degree in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. In May 2020 the Northwest University conferred upon Bishop Witherspoon the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity. Bishop Witherspoon has served as a Chaplain for the Seattle Fire Department, and a consultant for the Seattle Police Department. His gifts and skills have taken him around the world proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ, including Canada, Bahamas, Africa and Seoul, Korea. Bishop Witherspoon is consistently requested for conferences, workshops, and preaching engagements. Bishop Witherspoon served as the Administrative Assistant for WNEJ, under the administration of the late Bishop James E. Hicks, and the Superintendent of the L.J. Green District, founded by the late Superintendent Luther James Green. Currently, Bishop Witherspoon serves as the Chairman of Marketing and Sales for the Church of God in Christ National Publishing Board. He has established multiple educational and outreach programs, including B.R.I.D.G.E. and BYTES.

Both Bishop Reginald and Lady Laura Witherspoon are committed to the success of family and young people. Following an initial interview with his eldest son, the Seattle Times interviewed Bishop Witherspoon for a feature article regarding his noteworthy relationship with his son and wanted to learn more about how he has influenced the lives of his children. Bishop Witherspoon’s ability to impact young lives extend beyond his family to the youth of the community. Due to this unique anointing to impact youth for the Kingdom of God, God birthed an outreach strategy in the heart of Bishop Witherspoon subsequent to his presiding over the funerals of two young men in one week.

Bishop Witherspoon was featured in a January issue of the Seattle Times, Pacific Northwest Magazine, titled “Preaching Power – The Rev. Reginald Witherspoon wages ‘spiritual war-fare’ in Seattle’s Inner City.” This article focused on the tremendous move of God in the youth of the community and at Mount Calvary. Bishop Reginald Witherspoon stands out in the community as a father with a heart not only for his family, but for all families.

Bishop Witherspoon believes the purpose of the church is to transform lives and turn men and women’s hearts back to God. Through an in-depth study of the Holy Bible, he is a man led by the Spirit of God with an anointing to lead the people of God into a deeper relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Notably, under his sagacious leadership, coupled with God’s overwhelming favor, all properties owned by Mount Calvary Christian Center are mortgage free. Mount Calvary is “the Church of Love” - a church where Christianity is not a religion, but a way of life through obedience and faith in Jesus Christ. Mount Calvary is a cutting-edge and soul-winning ministry that God has chosen to be a beacon in the twenty-first century. Bishop Reginald C. Witherspoon Sr. is a phenomenal leader who adamantly believes in lifting up the name of Jesus through various fellowships, performing arts, corporate worship and powerful praise.

God in His infinite wisdom has promoted Bishop Reginald C. Witherspoon Sr. for such a time as this. His committed leadership to: Mount Calvary Christian Center Church, faithful support to the late Bishop James E. Hicks, and the National Church of God in Christ, have all positioned him for elevation to the esteemed office of Jurisdictional Prelate for the Washington Northwest Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, under the leadership of Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake.
